Almack’s Presents… NickyDigital.com

Posted in Live Photos, Live Shows, NickyDigital on July 1st, 2008 by Ultragrrrl

We love our buddy NickyDigital so much that we gave him his own feature. Every few days we’ll feature something music related that he put up on his site. It’s fun to share things that friends are up to.

Nicky went to see Duran Duran with the rest of the Lower East Side and got this fantastic video:

Catherine Wheel/Rob Dickenson, Mercury Lounge, NYC. June 23, 2008.

Posted in Live Photos, Mercury Lounge on June 30th, 2008 by Ultragrrrl

Rob Dickenson, the singer of the incredibly famous 80s band, Catherine Wheel, is back on tour. He looks a bit older but his voice is fucking incredible. I got some video that I’ll try to post later, but in the meantime, here’s photos:

Nightmare of You and Edison Glass, Temple Beth Am, Merrick, LI. June 21, 2008.

Posted in Live Photos, Temple Beth-Am on June 30th, 2008 by Ultragrrrl

I guess it’s no secret that I love Nightmare of You. I hadn’t been able to see any of their shows on The Bang Tour with Edison Glass, so I trekked all the way to Long Island to see the bands play at Temple Beth-Am. It’s very weird to me to go to Shul on a Saturday and not for services… but I guess stranger things have happened.

The Futureheads, Pianos, NYC. June 18, 2008.

Posted in Live Photos, Pianos on June 30th, 2008 by Ultragrrrl

The Futureheads played a secret show for BrooklynVegan’s Rock’n'ROFL at Pianos. Only about 100 lucky people got to go, and I was one of them!

My favorite parts were when one of the supremely drunken audience members jumped on stage to take over the mic and scream some jibberish, and when Ross from FH asked an audience member, if like him, he got mistaken for the singer of the Decemberists.

The Young Knives, Mercury Lounge, NYC. June 9, 2008.

Posted in Live Photos, Mercury Lounge on June 30th, 2008 by Ultragrrrl

Even if the Young Knives sucked (which they most certainly don’t) I would go see them for the in-between song banter alone. The brothers, Henry Dartnall and House of Lords, appear to hate each other and find the stage a prime time to point out the flaws of the other in ways that basically shock and awe.

The Futureheads, Chief, Bowery Ballroom, NYC. June 17, 2008.

Posted in Bowery Ballroom, Live Photos on June 30th, 2008 by Ultragrrrl

I love love LOVE the Futureheads. They remind me of bands that I would’ve discovered while going through my older brother’s vinyl collection, sandwiched between his Jam and Clash records. Their new single, “The Beginning of the Twist” can be downloaded for free (and legally) here. Their live show is filled with a ton of spastic energy and coordinated dance moves that makes you wish watching them would never end.

Opening band, Chief, are one of my new favorite bands. They all live in NYC for college I think, but they’re from LA. When I watch them I feel transcended and stoned (even when not smoking the reefer)… they just have that nice sunny LA-vibe that is such a delight to hear in NYC. Their sound is a mix of Kings of Leon and Tom Petty. You can hear their songs, and download their songs on their myspace.

Ludo, Irving Plaza, NYC. June 11, 2008

Posted in Live Photos, The Fillmore, irving plaza on June 30th, 2008 by Ultragrrrl

Ludo are one of the bands I would least likely be suspected of liking. Their music is a quirky mix of They Might Be Giants meets Liam Lynch. Now, I know that Liam Lynch is like the most obscure reference I could pull out of my ass, but much like Lynch, you really never know what you’re going to get from Ludo with each song. It could be a rock opera about dinosaurs a la Queen, or a power pop song about God knows what. Either way, they have easily the best merch ever: PILLOW CASES!

Apache Beat, Misshapes at Santos Party House, NYC. June 7th, 2008.

Posted in Live Photos, Santos Party House on June 30th, 2008 by Ultragrrrl

Sorry for the horrific delay in back posts… I’ve been busy with my new job/company at an actual office, so I sometimes can’t update as often as I’d like. But that’s going to change, I can promise you that.

Here’s photos of Apache Beat that I took at MisShapes on June 7th. They were a great mix of Bauhaus and Siouxie and the Banshees… definitely a band to keep your eye on in the future (more photos after the jump):

Redbull & Adderall: Your Afternoon Pick-Me-Up

Posted in Redbull and Adderall on June 24th, 2008 by Ultragrrrl

Weezer cover Radiohead’s Creep, live in Portland from Dave Allen on Vimeo.

I stole the above video from my new favorite blog: Hipster Runoff.

A bunch of bands posted new songs on their myspace:
The Verve - “Love is Noise”
The Bronx - “Knifeman”
Lily Allen - “Guess Who Batman?”

The winners of Radiohead’s animation contest are up on their myspace.

Jinners has a wrap up of last weekend’s After the Jump Festival.

Police’s classic album (it’s classic cos people say so, but I was never a big Police fan tbh) Synchronicity is for sale on Amazon.com for $1.99.

I guess Cute is What We Aim for decided to aim for a cheaper designer when they did their new album cover. Revolt-Media.com has the comparisons for you. Whoops!

I’m starting to believe that Heidi Montag is in on the joke. You know? Like, maybe she’s super funny and clever and is coming up with all these insane ideas of things to do to be over the top ridiculous. I mean, there’s no other way to explain her new song “Fashion”.

BrooklynVegan.com has some jealous-worthy images of last night’s free Coldplay gig at MSG, and last weekend’s Cure show setlist.

Buzzgrinder has images of Alkaline Trio’s new shoe designs for Nike. They’re very Alkaline Trio-ish.

Dawn Landes, Mercury Lounge, NYC. June 15, 2008.

Posted in Live Photos, Live Shows, Mercury Lounge on June 17th, 2008 by Ultragrrrl

The delightful Lauren Mooney went to see Dawn Landes at Mercury Lounge on June 15th. It was raining like a mofo, so she’s obviously a super trooper. Here is her review:

NOTE: If you were walking around Williamsburg on Saturday and wondered where all the hipsters were — they were either in Central Park getting soaked or holed up in nooks and crannies uptown trying to stay dry. VAMPIRE WEEKEND and a rainstorm. The things people do to be cool — but not me, not me. Aha.

Redbull & Adderall: Your Afternoon Pick-Me-Up

Posted in Redbull and Adderall on June 16th, 2008 by Ultragrrrl

First of all, the fantastic US Royalty are playing a show tonight at the Annex in NYC.

Fuse’s new show, “You Rock, Let’s Roll,” is looking for people to appear in their studio audience. It’s a show that hooks up musicians and their fans… basically, a groupie dating show that probably would’ve made a lot of my friend’s lives easier. Haha. Click here for more details… they’re filming all this week.

For those of you who wish to get up close and personal with the one and only John Mayer, you can now buy tickets to MAYERCRAFT CARRIER 2 TODAY! John Mayer’s pleasure trip promises to be “even craftier” with a hand picked line-up of bands and comedians. So far, only Guster have been announced…. but that’s ok since the cruise doesn’t set sail for another year.

For those of you interested in purchasing a crumpled, beaten up, sweaty piece of paper containing the chant-a-long lyrics for “Wham City” that was obtained at Dan Deacon’s October 17, 2007 show at the Bowery Ballroom during CMJ, you can do so by CLICKING HERE. Yeah… didnt know who he was either, but the email from the seller, Ryan Warnber, i got today was loltastic.

Actor Norman Reedus will be the guest DJ tonight on DJ Elhaam’s EastVillageRadio.org show.

Looks like MySpace is getting a re-design. The pages that are image captured in that link dont really show much of a change to the actual user page, but more to the overall layout. Via Mashable.

Lost Boys: the Tribe Soundtrack, is coming out on July 22. The publicist for this sent out a link to a label website that didn’t work anymore, so I dont know if they got the address wrong or if the bandwidth was exceeded or what… but anyway, the soundtrack has a cover that aideN did of the song “Cry Little Sister” from the original soundtrack. That song was fucking amazing, right? It was like, so goth, that bats flew out of my ass whenever I went to poo after listening to it. wiL from aideN is in the movie because he looks like Corey Feldmen. Other people on the soundtrack include: The Von Bondies (not goth, but nice), Seether (i dont think they’re goth), and Eagles of Death Metal (despite goth name, their music is pretty dandy). Dave Gahan (goth) also has a song on the album, as does Blind Melon (no longer around, but 90s, so therefore cool).

Redbull & Adderall: Your Afternoon Pick-Me-Up

Posted in Redbull and Adderall on June 12th, 2008 by Ultragrrrl

Merlin Bronques from LastNightsParty has a music video out, which I nabbed from Meik-Meik’s blog… but you can watch it above.

Being on the road forever has caused MIA to get really tired, engaged, and out of touch with reality… so she’s taking some time off. Sadly that means that MIA wil cancel Bonnaroo and her European tour, according to YouAinNoPicasso and every other blog.

Also, on YouAin’tNoPicasso is a cover that REM did of a Television song called “See No Evil”.

Nick Jago isn’t in BRMC anymore… and Sharin Foo is preggers??? According to Three Imaginary Girls all that has happened! ZOMG!

New Beck album art and track listing can be found over at Stereogum. He also performed a secret show the other day in LA.

Photos from yesterday’s Gnarls Barkley Apple InStore have been posted on BrooklynVegan. I guess they’re dressed as the Blues Brothers???

Primal Scream stream their new single and you can hear it on Stereogum. I FUCKING LOVE PRIMAL SCREAM SO MUCH THAT IT’S NUTSO

One of Almack’s fave new bands, Jukebox the Ghost, have a new video out and it’s been posted on ProductShopNYC along with tour dates.

Oh, and lastly, Michael Stipe is having a book signing on the 15th. If i were 15 again, my mind would be going wild.
