Brad Walsh’s Photography Exhibit/House Party, Brad’s House, Brooklyn, NY. 3/8/08

I wasn’t sure if this is something I should be writing on here since there were no bands present and so therefore, no live show to report about, but then I was like “Fuck it, if the Observer is writing about it, and the Misshapes are djing it, and the host of the night is immitated on Saturday Night Live the same evening, and if the master of ceremonies is the official Stolen Transmission nightlife photographer, then yes, it’s appropriate to be covered in this blog and so I’m sorry it’s taken so long!

Pics after the jump.

I love Brad Walsh. Way back before I met him, he used to email me all the time and made the logo that i used to use on my Ultragrrrl blog (which was a star of david with Kevin Federline and Mary-Kate Olsen in the middle of the star). One night, I went to Hiro Ballroom with Brownie to see some show and she spotted Brad Walsh and was like “Oh my god! I want to marry that boy!” And I was like “Brad? That kid with the camera?”
“Yes! Him! OMG you know him?!”
“Yeah… but I’m sorry Gurj, he’s gay.”
“I still want to marry him, think I have a chance to convert him?”

And actually, until Brad was outed on the web as dating Christian Siriano from Project Runway, it was possibly going to happen that Brad and Brownie were going to get married to help with her visa situtation. But now, everyone knows that that wouldnt be the truth. He joked that he would call his mom and break the news to her that he was now a breeder and that “mom! you just dont understand! this is who i am!” conversation would ensue. It was funny to all of us.

Anyway, Brad recently started doing
fantastic portraits from the nightlife that make people look amazing.

He was getting portraits of some well known people like…

Adam Green

Agnyes Dyen

Freja Beha Erichsen

Mixed in with just a bunch of regular clubkids and some of Brad’s besties.

Hs photo exhibit at his house was like his site, with about 25 selected portraits, printed up into large posters and 8×10s, framed, and on display. Much like his site, his party was filled to the brim with many of the regular faces you see, looking happy as ever to join Brad in a celebration of his work. You see, Brad is one of the sweetest boys on the scene. He’s the person that will pull you aside to thank you in all earnest for something, or tell you something he overheard someone saying about you (good or bad), and he NEVER complains. Never diva fits, never gives attitudes, and is just sweet as shit. So everyone at his party on saturday had no other motive then to either see massive photos of themselves, drink free Zygo vodka, and celebrate someone they love.

I spent the beginning of my evening at his party in Brad’s bedroom since the downstairs was SO packed. There was even a person at the door checking the guestlist (mind you, this is at his house!). But Brad brought me, KarenPlusOne, Faran K, Josh Madden, and Brad’s boyfriend Christian into his bedroom to enjoy one of the many cases of Zygo that was at the party. JennyPenny and her boyfriend Josh soon joined us, as did Alana Jones-Mann, Sophia Lamar, and another party host, Anna-rexia. Brad’s room became a VIP room of the party where we looked through complimentary issues of Playgirl, chugged from a bottle of Zygo, Faran revealed to an excited Christian that when you google the word “fashion,” his name is the first that pops up.

We then went downstairs when Brad’s room became as packed as the party, and I joined up with my friend Nancy Schuster and her friend Kerry and discussed my crazy obsession with magazines like Everyday Rachel Ray… and Karen, Jenny, Faran, and I celebrated Brad’s work by showing off our best “photoface.”

Congratulations Brad on a wonderful party. Here’s to your photos, your talent, and being awesome.
