Your Vegas, Bowery Ballroom, NYC. 3/11/08

Sometimes I feel lucky that I have to leave my house every once in a while to head out to shows, I feel lucky that I have to write about the shows the next day, and I feel lucky that I have to take photos of these things because if I didn’t I would’ve been one of those million people that are kind of sure they were at some show, but don’t know for sure. They don’t know if it’s legend, a memory created from a story, or their own experience. And without photos and this blog documenting my nights in NYC, I would be fucked. I have the worst memory in the world.

That said, last night’s Your Vegas show at Bowery Ballroom was like the time I went to see Coldplay at Bowery Ballroom just before their Parachutes album came out and nobody knew the words, but everyone identified with the feeling of the songs. It was amazing and you could tell that you were in the middle of something fantastic that you need to hold on to with all your grip because if you didn’t, you might miss enjoying a band that is far too big for Bowery Ballroom, and by the next time they come around after their album is released, their Bowery show might be a special invites only occasion.

The audience seemed about 80% British, judging by their haircuts and clothes… and the amount of time I had to wait at the bar for a drink. My friend Matt joked about how usually at shows he gives his VIP pass to some girl as he leaves to make their day — giving them an opportunity to get a bit closer to the band — but after looking around, he realized that all the girls in the audience were so hot that none of them would need his pass. “They all have a shot,” he joked.

Your Vegas has their own channel on kyte.tv! Check it out! They have some pretty cool shows on there, all that they produced themselves!

I couldn’t agree more with the review of Your Vegas at the Bowery Ballroom. When you see Your Vegas perform you get the sense you are seeing legends in the making and that you and the rest of the room is in on a secret before everyone else. When you first see Your Vegas, you don’t know the words but it doesn’t matter. You feel them and their passion for music and it’s infectious, and you know you haven’t seen the last of them. I felt that way when I saw them in May 2008, and now I’m hooked. I’ve seen Your Vegas perform live five times since then and each performance has been better and better. They SERIOUSLY rock. The last time I saw them, they broke away from familiarizing the band with their album for just a few minutes and broke out into a jam that has to be my favorite two minutes of a concert EVER and I have been to about 100 concerts in my life and have seen huge acts. DON’T MISS SEEING THIS BAND LIVE, and don’t miss their album, A Town and Two Cities. You can hear the WHOLE album for free at http://www.thesixtyone.com/yourvegas so definitely have a listen, you won’t regret it. - Julie

To be able to get in on the ground floor of this band’s success is truly an honor. Their debut CD simply rocks and their live performances are absolutely amazing. If you have a chance to take in a Your Vegas concert — do all you have to — get there…you will not be sorry. And be sure to pick up or download a copy of their debut CD, A Town and Two Cities…its incredible. You can hear the cd for free at http:/www.thesixtyone.com/yourvegas and see for yourself.
