Great Northern, Webster Hall, NYC. 3/19/08.

I’m saying this in the nicest way possible: Watching Great Northern makes me want to shoot myself in the head and end everything right there and have them as the last thing I hear. I don’t get it. I think that their songs are just so fucking moving that I can’t handle it sometimes and become dizzy with emotion. It’s kind of like how I feel whenever I see Interpol or Sigur Ros live. But unlike those two bands, GN are still small enough that I was able to stand up against the stage.
Once upon a time, in like 2000, it was just me and 10 other people at Interpol shows. And when they opened up for bands, I was there for them, and not the bigger bands that were headlining. I would do the same for Great Northern over and over again until they were the headliners… which they will be one day.
With three people standing up front in a line, like a wall with sound booming from it, Great Northern played a lush set that included their song “Home,” which you might recognize form a certain car commercial. It’s instantly familiar and sounds almost like a cover, it’s so good and classic. I video’ed it last night for you guys:
If I could, I’d make them tour with the Twilight Sad so I could have a wall of sound “oh my goddddddd” evening.

JEBUS! If Great Northern and The Twilight Sad toured together I’d join you in the mass suicide. That would be insanely incredible. Two of my top 3 2007 releases - http://atomicned.com/?cat=20
