MIA AND LCD SOUNDSYSTEM, MOMA — PARTY IN THE GARDEN. June 10, 2008

Lauren Mooney is one lucky girl: She some how, by some miracle or divine intervention, obtained tickets to MIA’s show at the MOMA. OMFG, right?

Well, under the cut is her hilarious review and some pics she took.

My text message to myself while I was bored –

“So I’m walking around pretending like rich men are talking to me. and it’s pouring rain on decadent desserts and open bars. and people look expensive but not rich and i have a huge urge to go up to LCD SOUNDSYSTEM and be like ‘hey you’re the only cool people here can i
dance with you cuz you’re the only one kinda-dancing?’ but then I might get kicked out before MIA plays”

OK — then i broke out of my existential need to dance crisis and a photographer who wanted my front and center spot convinced me out of it — only because there was no way I wanted to fight such a D#$%, but standing behind him sucked too — so thank goodness he was only
there for a couple songs.

Then I reclaimed my position and OMG to be right in front of MIA is an AMAZING experience — she just has this crazy energy (and I’m sorry I only had my cell phone and not my “real” camera — but the photos are so blurry because her and her crew never stopped moving!)

I think it’s my new dream to be that guy who was just there to dance and wear sparkly leggings — fabulousness! He reminded me of that guy that tours with Beck — the dancing machine who blows my mind every time.

And as the pretentious art crowd faded into the background I found myself lost in the music — and then MIA gave a little speech about how we need to be responsible because we have money and we can make change. And the dude that never stopped smiling in her crew was like “I see your BlackBerries.” But I don’t have a Blackberry, and I borrowed the not-expensive dress I was wearing from an intern at my work — haha.

The highlight of the night was definitely my best mate spotting Mos Def and then telling him to come onstage — which he did (ok maybe that was after MIA asked him) and for the final song “Paper Planes,” Mos Def was right in front of me playing air guitar and singing along.

What more can I say? Best night — mos definitely.
