Redbull & Adderall: Your Afternoon Pick-Me-Up

Weezer cover Radiohead’s Creep, live in Portland from Dave Allen on Vimeo.

I stole the above video from my new favorite blog: Hipster Runoff.

A bunch of bands posted new songs on their myspace:
The Verve - “Love is Noise”
The Bronx - “Knifeman”
Lily Allen - “Guess Who Batman?”

The winners of Radiohead’s animation contest are up on their myspace.

Jinners has a wrap up of last weekend’s After the Jump Festival.

Police’s classic album (it’s classic cos people say so, but I was never a big Police fan tbh) Synchronicity is for sale on Amazon.com for $1.99.

I guess Cute is What We Aim for decided to aim for a cheaper designer when they did their new album cover. Revolt-Media.com has the comparisons for you. Whoops!

I’m starting to believe that Heidi Montag is in on the joke. You know? Like, maybe she’s super funny and clever and is coming up with all these insane ideas of things to do to be over the top ridiculous. I mean, there’s no other way to explain her new song “Fashion”.

BrooklynVegan.com has some jealous-worthy images of last night’s free Coldplay gig at MSG, and last weekend’s Cure show setlist.

Buzzgrinder has images of Alkaline Trio’s new shoe designs for Nike. They’re very Alkaline Trio-ish.

Redbull & Adderall: Your Afternoon Pick-Me-Up

Posted in Redbull and Adderall on June 16th, 2008 by Ultragrrrl

First of all, the fantastic US Royalty are playing a show tonight at the Annex in NYC.

Fuse’s new show, “You Rock, Let’s Roll,” is looking for people to appear in their studio audience. It’s a show that hooks up musicians and their fans… basically, a groupie dating show that probably would’ve made a lot of my friend’s lives easier. Haha. Click here for more details… they’re filming all this week.

For those of you who wish to get up close and personal with the one and only John Mayer, you can now buy tickets to MAYERCRAFT CARRIER 2 TODAY! John Mayer’s pleasure trip promises to be “even craftier” with a hand picked line-up of bands and comedians. So far, only Guster have been announced…. but that’s ok since the cruise doesn’t set sail for another year.

For those of you interested in purchasing a crumpled, beaten up, sweaty piece of paper containing the chant-a-long lyrics for “Wham City” that was obtained at Dan Deacon’s October 17, 2007 show at the Bowery Ballroom during CMJ, you can do so by CLICKING HERE. Yeah… didnt know who he was either, but the email from the seller, Ryan Warnber, i got today was loltastic.

Actor Norman Reedus will be the guest DJ tonight on DJ Elhaam’s EastVillageRadio.org show.

Looks like MySpace is getting a re-design. The pages that are image captured in that link dont really show much of a change to the actual user page, but more to the overall layout. Via Mashable.

Lost Boys: the Tribe Soundtrack, is coming out on July 22. The publicist for this sent out a link to a label website that didn’t work anymore, so I dont know if they got the address wrong or if the bandwidth was exceeded or what… but anyway, the soundtrack has a cover that aideN did of the song “Cry Little Sister” from the original soundtrack. That song was fucking amazing, right? It was like, so goth, that bats flew out of my ass whenever I went to poo after listening to it. wiL from aideN is in the movie because he looks like Corey Feldmen. Other people on the soundtrack include: The Von Bondies (not goth, but nice), Seether (i dont think they’re goth), and Eagles of Death Metal (despite goth name, their music is pretty dandy). Dave Gahan (goth) also has a song on the album, as does Blind Melon (no longer around, but 90s, so therefore cool).

Merlin Bronques from LastNightsParty has a music video out, which I nabbed from Meik-Meik’s blog… but you can watch it above.

Being on the road forever has caused MIA to get really tired, engaged, and out of touch with reality… so she’s taking some time off. Sadly that means that MIA wil cancel Bonnaroo and her European tour, according to YouAinNoPicasso and every other blog.

Also, on YouAin’tNoPicasso is a cover that REM did of a Television song called “See No Evil”.

Nick Jago isn’t in BRMC anymore… and Sharin Foo is preggers??? According to Three Imaginary Girls all that has happened! ZOMG!

New Beck album art and track listing can be found over at Stereogum. He also performed a secret show the other day in LA.

Photos from yesterday’s Gnarls Barkley Apple InStore have been posted on BrooklynVegan. I guess they’re dressed as the Blues Brothers???

Primal Scream stream their new single and you can hear it on Stereogum. I FUCKING LOVE PRIMAL SCREAM SO MUCH THAT IT’S NUTSO

One of Almack’s fave new bands, Jukebox the Ghost, have a new video out and it’s been posted on ProductShopNYC along with tour dates.

Oh, and lastly, Michael Stipe is having a book signing on the 15th. If i were 15 again, my mind would be going wild.

I’m watching the new video for Coldplay on FUSE right now and it’s a mix of the Beatles, the Monkees and Panic! at the Disco. Oh, and everyone’s got those military jackets on. My Coldplay Romance? And there’s a scene that reminds me of the movie Spaceballs… you know when they’re combing the desert? I like this video. )by the way, it sucks that they don’t include Spaceballs in the Mel Brooks box set.)

Incase you didn’t see every other blog posting about this, you can stream the new Sigur Ros album. Thank you, You Ain’t No Picasso.

Meg White HAS BEEN SPOTTED says Stereogum. I guess she came out during a Raconteurs’ performance and got behind the drums. I am assuming she was invited to get behind the drums and didn’t just walk up there and start banging away.

LOL. Capitol Records are releasing a best of Radiohead DVD. Obviously the band is probably not too stoked about this.

The only reason why this Crunktastical link inclusion is music related is because it includes a pic of Beyonce, but it’s worth every click.

OK, so ProductShopNYC is reporting that Virgin Megastore Times Square is probably closing it’s doors by 2009 so the landlords of the location can get more money/square foot for the location. Right now Virgin is paying something like $54/sqfoot, and apparently rent could go for $700/sqfoot. WOWZERS. Can’t really argue that one.

Incase you can’t get into any of the Ting Tings shows in any city in North America (I feel your pain right now), you can watch this clip of them playing on Jimmy Kimmel. God, I want to be the singer of the Ting Tings so bad, you know? She’s like Debbie Harry meets Justine from Elastica rolled in one. <3 thank you My Old Kentucky Blog.

Over at Jungle Jay’s blog, his buddy posted a hilarious video of some dude named Rob Semmer throwing down at a Black Lips show.

GorillaVsBear has a link to possibly new Franz Ferdinand songs. They’ve gotten very into David Byrne’s world music sound, it seems.

Oh, and according to comments on BrooklynVegan, tickets to Sigur Ros’ MOMA performance sold out in like 3 minutes!

And finally, BrooklynVegan has a bunch of fun things for you to do tonight in the city posted. IF YOU’RE NOT DYING OF HEAT, THAT IS.

Redbull & Adderall: Your Afternoon Pick-Me-Up

Posted in Redbull and Adderall on June 9th, 2008 by Ultragrrrl

In a preview to the photos I’m going to be posting later of Duran Duran from last week’s Central Park’s Summerstage show, above is the band performing The Normal’s “Warm Leatherette.”

GorillaVsBear posted a video of Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead covering Portishead’s “The Rip.” That’s some good ‘head.

And in more Radiohead goodness, YouAinNoPicasso has a fantastic new Radiohead song up which they played on the 6th in Ireland! I’m really loving the fact that the band is kinda sounding more like their old self.

I can’t believe that Miss ModernAge was at the MisShapes.com launch party and I didn’t see her ass. Check out her site for photos and celebrity sightings… WHICH I ALSO MISSED! WTF. Or wait, actually, I did see some of them. And Gideon Yago was my date, does that count? Oh, and I fell and twisted my ankle and in the process flashed everyone? Good times.

So, Stereogum accidently answered the question that I’ve been meaning to ask: How is Julian Casablancas making money these days? By collaborating with Santogold and Pharrell on a song for Converse. Duh.

The Violent Femmes did a cover of “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley that’s pretty delightful. I imagine that “Hey Ya!” is up for the next cover?

Meanwhile in the land of covers (I’m cover crazy today), SoMuchSilence posted Elbow’s cover of Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black.” With all the covers I’m posting today, it’s like indie American Idol or some shit.

OMGOMGOMGOMGOGM! ShortAndSweetNYC totally just gave me a hard-on. Check this shit out: “The ARChive is a not-for-profit archive, library, and research center for music with a vinyl collection more than 1.5 million records deep. This sale spans the world of music, literally, and they even acquired hit radio station Z-100’s LP collection when they moved, so expect lot’s of 80s albums.” Click the site link for DETAILS.

MusicIsArt posted info for this year’s After the Jump Fest featuring Pela!

It’s all Radiohead and all covers all day here. I’m not kidding. I Guess I’m Floating posted a video of “Big Ideas (Nude)” that’s some sort of remix. Man, this song is so fucking old, but so fucking good.

Lastly, this is kinda incredibly fucked up of the dude… Hayley Williams from Paramore’s Ex-Step father has been auctioning off her personal items on eBay. Chicka posted his phone number. LOL.

Wondering what that pic above is of? Well, it’s a preview of the best dress I’ve seen all year, worn by the girl in the best ever makeover I’ve seen all year. Click here to see who.

SPIN.com has posted the first pictures of the new JOY DIVISION ZUNE that is preloaded with the new Joy Division documentary. OMG DO WANT!!!!!!!!!!

Albert Hammond Jr.’s new album, ?Como Te Llama?, comes out on July 9th, but you can stream a quicktime version of his new single “GfC” right over…. here And you can post your photo on Albert’s website.

After the Daily Mail in the UK suggested that a girl killed herself because she was a fan of My Chemical Romance, those industrious fans did a peaceful protest outside of the DM’s offices AND set up ThankYouMCR.net, a site dedicated to commemorating the positive influence MCR has had on it’s fans. Warners should submit the positive influence MCR has had on it’s label’s finances.

Being basically a midget, I was unable to get to the front of the stage at Mercury Lounge last night to take pictures of Cursive (not that the video of Tim doing Karaoke wasn’t enough to quench your thirst), but this dude got amazing shots that are worth checking out.

BrooklynVegan has info on the Sigur Ros ‘ MOMA show. I definitely would LOVE to see that. Lastnight I had a dream that Ryan McGuinleyface and I fell in love. It was weird. I don’t even remember what he looked like in my dream, but I think he looked like Devandra.

Catherine Wheel’s singer, Rob Dickenson, is going on the road, releasing new material, and doing some shows with tons of CW in the set list. YAY!

The Futureheads’ newest album, This Is Not the World, is out NOW in the states! HORAY! The album was self-released by the band, and really fucking incredible. You can buy it on iTunes by CLICKING HERE

Modular’s very own Presets are coming to a town near you (including two night’s in NYC that will be covered on this blog). For tour dates and fun shit, check out their MySpace.

Morrissey will reissue 1995’s Southpaw Grammar this July with remastered audio, three previously unreleased tracks, and new artwork.

BrooklynVegan has some fantastic images of the Thao Nguyen WTGDSD and Rilo Kiley show at Terminal 5 lastnight.

The always innovative David Byrne transformed some building to be something that you can play. I know that sounds really weird to type and explain but thankfully Stereogum does a better job at it.

Thank God! Radiohead’s entire catalog is finally available on iTunes. I have worn out and scratched those fucking CDs to nothing and I don’t want to go into a CD shop and buy them because then some fucking kid is gonna be like “omg, ultragrrrl is such a poseur, she doesn’t even own OK Computer.”

Michelle Nolan has decided to leave Straylight Run and pursue a solo-career. I wonder who she will work with, what direction it will take (Gwen Stefani perhaps???) and if Straylight Run will be less boring now. JUST KIDDING! Sorta.

MEIK has a photo of the Pete Doherty Gallery in Paris. It doesnt appear that he has anything else up except for one photo, and information as to how to find it. Boo! Get more info!

OK, this is going to blow your mind. Guess who the guy on the right is. Take a wild guess. The photo is really old, so it might be sort of hard to make an accurate guess, but go for it. Here’s a hint: he has had some free love on the free love freeway. Click here for the answer (he’s the singer) and to hear music. You can even watch a video!(link via an AIM frommy brother)

Sadly, Rock’n'Roll pioneer, Bo Diddley has passed away. He was 79, and instrumental in developing the up-tempo guitar strumming that became the foundation of modern rock.

In shocking and very surprising news, the remainder of Kurt Cobain’s ashes, which belonged to his widow Courtney Love, has gone missing. Possibly stolen. I really, really, really hope that they are just misplaced. Like the time I misplaced my favorite dress only to find it in a bag that I was about to send out to GoodWill.

This year’s Download Festival lineup has been announced. It includes: Brand New, Mutemath, Yeasayer, M83, THE DUKE SPIRIT, The Parlor Mob, Ghostland Observatory, Iggy Pop & the Stooges, and THE MOTHERFUCKING KILLERS!!!!!!

BrooklynVegan has some pretty amazing news: Bjork and Sigur Ros are laying together in Iceland! I saw them play together in Brooklyn and it was the most amazing thing. I’ve been looking for a reason to go to Iceland… Plus, my friend Parker was there over the weekend and he said people START partying at 1am. BONKERS.

BrooklynVegan also has photos from The Raconteurs 3 night NYC playfest.

Stereogum has photos from Friday’s Wire show at South Street Seaport. By the way, can I just say how awesome it is that Apes&Androids are getting so much hype? David and Brian from A&A are super old friends of mine since going to Tenafly Middle School together. I shit you not. MAZEL TOV TO THEM!

REDBULL & ADDERALL: YOUR AFTEROON PICK-ME-UP

Posted in Redbull and Adderall on May 30th, 2008 by Ultragrrrl

I really love Jared Leto drama. Like, it’s so great and everyone thinks he’s a douchebag, and has all these great stories, and I met him once at Sundance and he was nice to me cos he was trying to get with my friend… and oh look, he heard the kids were really into Mindless Self Indulgence. Whatevs, I’d still hit it.

Were you unable to attend this years Coachella festival like I was? Well, then maybe you were as wonderfully surprised as I was when you found out that Prince covered Radiohead’s “Creep.” Radiohead were too, and they wanted to see clips on YouTube like the rest of us BUT COULDNT!

Fiddy’s house caught fire. Six people were hospitalized and thankfully, nobody was killed. Police are suspecting arson.

The delightful folks at NPR recorded the Raconteurs live from the 9:30 club in DC. You might want to pee before listening to avoid inability to leave computer for an hour and a half because of rock overload. [MusicIsMyBoyfriend]

The movie about the Germs starring Shane West is coming out in August, says Billboard. I’m guessing the remaining members of the Germs are either broke, bored, or really like Shane West’s portrayal of Germs’ singer, Darby Crash, since they played in a band together for a bit.

Buzzgrinder has some great stuff from a newish band called Javelins.

BrooklynVegan has a list of all the great performances happening at the today show this Summer. Including: Rihanna, Coldplay, and Ashlee Wentz.

By the way, my friend Angela and I were trying to think of what Pete and Ashlee Wentz were going to name their baby. Here are some of the ideas:
Morrissey or Moz Wentz, Bowie Wentz, Wentzel Wentz, Panic! Wentz, Rainer Maria Wentz, Homer Simpson-Wentz. What do you think it’ll be?

REDBULL & ADDERALL: YOUR AFTERNOON PICK-ME-UP

Posted in Redbull and Adderall on May 29th, 2008 by Ultragrrrl

First of all, some fantastic news regarding Gay Rights in the state of New York: Gov. David A. Paterson has directed all state agencies to begin to revise their policies and regulations to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other jurisdictions, like Massachusetts, California and Canada. I find the fact that Gay marriages are not recognized to be a total disregard for the separation of Church and State. What a great step forward. More at The New York Times.

Oh, what a fantastic thing to watch when you’re just feeling a wee bit not-your-self: ArjanWrites posted a video of Brandon Flowers and Dave Keuning from the Killers (duh), performing “Planet Earth” live, on stage, with Duran Duran! How fucking cool is that? Click here for more info and you can watch the video above.

Jake and Jeff Turner from Say Anything are in a band together called XO (probably after one of the best Elliott Smith albums), and they just posted a new song.

Pete and Ashlee Wentz are expecting a baby. Shocker. Congrats to them!

BrooklynVegan has some fantastic photos of the Cure from Sasquatch that are somewhat creepy. More amazing Sasquatch photos HERE.

Your other most favorite French electronic geniuses, Daft Punk, are in the studio. That makes me a happy happy person.

Pitchfork has an interview with Free Kitten — the band consisting of Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon and Pussy Galore’s Julie Cafritz. Merow.

I love both Japanese people and Mariah Carey’s obsession with wearing heels all the time. Thankfully, both those things are in a video I found on Idolator of Mariah Carey throwing out the first pitch at a baseball game.

Also on Pitchfork, some good news for Nick Snow: The Wrens have a new song out! It’s available on some sort of compilation that’s about net neutrality and features songs from Bright Eyes, Wilco, and Palomar. More info at Pitchfork.

Miss Modernage has news that Jena Malone has a blog on IFC and a new song out and shit.

OHMYGOD… Clay Aiken apparently sperminated his record producer! Wow. Wow.

Jinners has some videos of Annie Lin with Christian Westbrook taken from Pianos on Friday.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are going on what’s rumored to be the last tour for the group. ProductShopNYC has the details of where you can see them.

REDBULL & ADDERALL: YOUR AFTERNOON PICK-ME-UP

Posted in Redbull and Adderall on May 28th, 2008 by Ultragrrrl

OMGOMGOMGOGOGMOG BRAND NEW SIGUR ROS TRACK AND VIDEO UP ON STEREOGUM!!!!

Little known fact: Indierockers LOVE to dance to TI’s “What You Know About That.” Can’t wait to hear what TI tracks will be blowing up this summer? MTV has em!

Coheed & Cambria is totally for nerdy comic book fans, so the singer, Claudio, has started a new comic strip called Kill Audio. It’s up on a myspace page, so the best part of that is reading all the comments people leave. Ca Ca Ca reepy.

BrooklynVegan has some pretty amazing photos of the Flaming Lips at Sasquatch… also included are NSFW pics of naked ladies on stage.

Speaking of Sasquatch, Stereogum has some pretty gorgeous photos from the festival.

Idolator has a hilarious take on the not-Bonos throughout pop music… and even includes Remy Zero in the mix, which was thoughtful of them. I had attempted a similar thing back in 1999 with not-Radioheads, and even interviewed Matt Bellamy from Muse about it. Man, I wish I could find that interview.

I think the Sex Pistols go on a World Tour about once every 3 years, so like, if you see them or you don’t see them, by the time there’s another Presidential election, Johnny Rotton will be looking for ways to get in front of your face. Pitchfork has the details of their tour and live DVD.

REDBULL & ADDERALL: YOUR AFTERNOON PICK-ME-UP

Listen to the The Futureheads‘ new album, “This Is Not The World,” a week early on SPINNER.COM. The album is out on June 3rd.

Also, check out this great interview with Barry from the Futureheads discussing the launch of their own label on Boing-Boing.net

Kerli is an Estonian singer whose career — and I say this as one of the biggest compliments I could ever give a person — seems as if it were modeled after the Bjork-written-Madonna-performed song, “Bedtime Story.” Between the song and the video, that shit was basically incredible and groundbreaking and unreal. I mean, Bjork was pretty underground at the time and Madonna was at the most cutting edge and experimental and cool of her career and they collaborated…. and anyway, focus: This video and song for Kerli’s “Walking on Air” is basically what you just read.

More music videos — these funny ones — on youtube: Hilarious Facebook rap:

This bob dylan spoof is even funnier:

One of my favorite new bands, Jukebox the Ghost, are supporting the Wombats at the Blender Theater on June 3. I think we’ll definitely be there.

Remember the good ol’ mixtape? These days we have muxtape, which is fun, but mixtapes were exceptional! Jim Shearer, one of the nicest vjs on mtv, discusses the art of the mixtape on IFC.com

Speaking of… check out Erica Dagley’s summer mix. It’s so fucking good!

Redbull & Adderall: Your Afternoon Pick-Me-Up!

Posted in Redbull and Adderall on May 22nd, 2008 by Ultragrrrl

NiN and goth icon, Peter Murphy, teamed up to do a cover of “Warm Letherette” that is pretty fucking amazing.

Nightmare of You are trucking along all over the country playing a tour, and you can keep track of them via Twitter. Check out this video interview of them, and listen to this radio interview podcast thing.

KarenPlusOne’s Bamboozle Blog is finally up on RecCenter. I think it’s comedy gold, but that might just be because it was like reading a diary entry I forgot to make.

People love live-blogging American Idol and I love reading their live-blogs the next day. Here’s Idolator’s and Junk-Mag’s recap of the season finale. In the end, I was glad that of the two David’s Cook was the winner. He was more of a showman, than the kiddie. Also, doesn’t David Archuletta look like the second runner up to the UK’s version POP Idol Gareth Gates?

Autolux have posted their new single “Audience No. 2″ on their website for “free” download with “a suggested paying price.”

This is the cutest thing I’ve seen all week: A sleep baby bear. OMGOMGOGMOGMG. Kill me, that is just too fucking cute for words. I wanna barf on my laptop so I can think about something less cute than that.

So Sonic Youth are putting out an album via $tarbucks of a compilation of songs that were chosen by bands and people like Radiohead, David Cross, Dave Eggers, and Beck. I guess so that’s so people can say that a certain non-hit SY song is their favorite because Radiohead also likes it and that means they didn’t have to dig deep into the SY catalog to find it. Whatever. Anyway, it took me about 4 reads to understand the concept that Stereogum laid out for me. I think I’m dumb… or maybe just happy.
